LAFD investigating reported arson at Westwood Hills Christian Church

Officials are investigating a reported arson that occurred at the Westwood Hills Christian Church on the corner of Le Conte and Hilgard avenues Friday night.

At about 9:14 p.m., firefighters put out a fire that authorities say was intentionally set in the 61-year old church, according to a Los Angeles Fire Department report released Friday.

Several pieces of furniture were burned, costing around $5,000 of damage. No one was injured in the fire, the report stated.

“An act of arson in a house of worship is a particularly repugnant crime,” LAFD spokesman Brian Humphrey said in the report.

LAFD authorities have initiated a task force comprised of specialists from the Los Angeles Police Department, Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the FBI to aid in the investigation.

Anyone with information about the fire should contact the LAFD Arson/Counter-Terrorism Section at (213) 893-9800.
