*UPDATED*: Daily Bruin wins ACP Pacemaker for nation’s best daily college newspaper

The Daily Bruin won a Pacemaker for the nation’s best college daily newspaper and seven other national awards today at the annual ACP/CMA college media convention.

Matt Stevens won first place for Reporter of the Year for his work on the 2010 Bridget O’Brien scholarship project Over and Back, an investigation of basketball recruiting in Cameroon.

Over and Back also won first place for Multimedia News Feature for the online package created by Stevens, Millie Tran and Maya Sugarman.

Claire Byun and Sean Greene took third for Newspaper Page/Spread Design. Olivia Anthony won second place for the Illustration on the spread.

The Daily Bruin’s photojournalism department also received several awards. Sugarman placed third in the Feature Photo category and fourth for Photo Slideshow. Both she and Morgan Glier placed fifth for another Photo Slideshow.

Sunday morning, the Daily Bruin also won third place in Best of Show in the four-year daily broadsheet category.

Only publications of convention attendees are eligible to enter the Best of Show awards.]

The awards were presented at the 90th annual Associated Collegiate Press and College Media Advisers National College Media Convention in Orlando, Fla.
