The UCLA women’s water polo team quickly turned a tune-up match into a blowout, defeating Long Beach State 11-4 at Spieker Aquatics Center on Saturday.

The No. 4 Bruins (5-0) received goals from eight players in a game in which they never trailed. UCLA was led by junior utility KK Clark, who tallied three.

The UCLA defense was especially stingy. Two Bruin goalkeepers held the 49ers (0-1) to just four goals on 20 shot attempts that found the cage.
Starting junior Caitlin Dement notched 10 saves before giving way to freshman Sami Hill in the fourth quarter.

The match marked one of seven home games for the Bruins at Spieker this season. UCLA’s remaining home contests will come in conference play against the tough competition of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.

The win gives the Bruins momentum heading into an important weekend.

UCLA will head north to play in the Stanford Invitational on Saturday and Sunday. The Bruins’ four games in two days will kick off against preseason No. 3 Hawai’i and No. 2 USC, two teams it will see again at home when MPSF play starts in February.
