Women’s tennis to play for spot in National Indoors today

Rainy weather and wet courts prevented the UCLA women’s tennis team from securing a spot in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Indoor Championships on Sunday. The No. 5 Bruins will resume the postponed qualifier play today against Sacramento State at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.

The Bruins (3-0) started off the weekend with a convincing 4-0 win over San Diego in the opening round of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend on Saturday.

UCLA clinched the match early behind the performances of senior Andrea Remynse, junior Carling Seguso and freshman Courtney Dolehide, who all won their singles matches in straight sets. The Toreros (1-1) managed to win only one set before the Bruins scored enough points to clinch their second consecutive shutout.

There will be two matches played to conclude the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, but the match between San Diego and Pepperdine is a consolation match. The winner of the UCLA-Sacramento State match will win a spot in the Team Indoor Championships in Charlottesville, Va. Neither team has dropped a match this season.
