Theft Approximately $2,500 in computer equipment was stolen from
the Biomedical Library May 13. Police found evidence of forced
entry, but have no suspects in custody. Another $1,500 in
merchandise was stolen May 15 when an unknown suspect took a bike
and sunglasses from a car in Parking Structure 4. Police have no
suspects in connection with this case. Hedrick Hall was the scene
of a robbery May 14, when $1,000 in personal property was stolen
from a dorm room. A stereo, CD player, jewelry and other valuables
were taken from the room. On Friday, reports were made that $100 in
bamboo plants were stolen from the Mathias Botanical Gardens on the
southeast corner of campus. Public Disturbances Two male transients
were seen bathing in the men’s bathroom opposite Center for the
Health Sciences Room 12-138 Friday. The transients left the
building after being asked to do so by hospital staff. In a similar
case Monday, an unidentified person was seen loitering in the Math
Sciences building on the eighth floor. He was taken into custody
for trespassing and bail was set at $250. On Thursday, a panhandler
was reportedly yelling at passersby in front of Burger King in
Westwood. Possibly the same person was also begging and yelling at
passersby on Gayley in front of Shakey’s. Police did not arrest any
suspects in connection with the harassment. Over the weekend,
several fights broke out. On Saturday, a fight was reported at 456
Landfair between about 10 individuals with bottles. On the same
street, another individual was attempting to start fights with
passersby. The LAPD was notified and appropriate actions were
taken. An overdose victim was found in the Bunche courtyard Friday.
Emergency medical services staff transported the victim to the UCLA
Emergency Room, where the victim was treated. A man claiming to be
installing security devices at the Jules Stein Eye Institute was
allegedly seen rummaging through others’ personal property in Room
B-182 on May 12, police reported. No suspects are in custody in
