WOMEN’S SOCCER:

Arkenberg’s winning goal gives Pepperdine its first loss at
homeBy Brad Zucker

Daily Bruin Senior Staff

One day before flying off to the Northwest to face Washington
and Washington State, the UCLA women’s soccer team took a short
trip around the corner to face nearby Pepperdine. And for awhile,
it seemed as if the Bruins (7-4-1) had overlooked the fact that
strolling into Malibu for an easy win was something that was next
to impossible.

The Waves (9-4-0), entering Wednesday afternoon’s contest with a
perfect record at home in six games, jumped out to a 2-1 lead in
the first half. In the end, however, UCLA prevailed with a 3-2
victory.

"We started off slow, but we picked it up in the second half and
started to play really well," assistant coach Paul Ratcliffe
said.

Midfielders Louise Lieberman and Marie Meinhart each scored once
for UCLA, while Traci Arkenberg netted yet another winning goal in
the final half.
