Monday, May 20, 1996The Asian Education Project seeks to improve
the reading, writing, verbal and listening skills of individual
students by pairing UCLA volunteers with children from Castelar
Elemen-tary School in Chinatown.

Gabriel Yin, a third-year chemical engineering student, tutors
third-grader Jimmy Wong in math and English.

Ling Li, 8, beams at his chance to throw a football after
receiving throwing tips from his "Big Bro" Oliver Yun, a fifth-year
microbiology and neuroscience student. Yun says it’s very rewarding
to provide academic guidance and act as a positive role model.

Irene Huang, a second-year undeclared student, and Stacy Hor, 8,
play pattycake before they head out to the playground.
