The UCLA women’s water polo team used a trip to the desert on Saturday to display its offensive firepower.

The result was two wins: an 8-1 victory over conference foe Arizona State at its home pool and a 17-5 triumph over Cal Baptist later in the day.

No. 3 UCLA (18-3, 1-1 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) continued its dominance over an Arizona State team it has still never lost to.

The Bruins raced out to a 4-0 lead after one quarter and locked down on defense to make sure the Sun Devils (4-7, 0-2) never got in the game. Senior center Grace Reynolds had three goals as UCLA evened its conference record.

A similar story unfolded in the Bruins’ second match of the day. Cal Baptist was shut out in the first quarter while UCLA put up seven goals of its own. With a comfortable lead, the Bruins were able to empty the bench ““ nine Bruins accounted for the 17 goals, with freshman utility Becca Dorst’s four leading the way.

UCLA now has six games remaining in its season, all against top 10 teams. The Bruins will play MPSF foe California on Saturday at Spieker Aquatics Center.
