Big Game Day
Posted March 3, 2007
Kansas 90, Texas 85: Kevin Durant dominated this game, scoring 25 points before half, and the Horns raced out to a double-digit lead. Too bad he rolled his ankle after the break, and he only scored 7 as KU stormed back to take the Big 12 title. Texas will be incredibly dangerous in two weeks with Durant and point D.J. Augustin running the show. Durant is my easy choice for Player of the Year.
Ohio St. 65, Michigan 61: The Buckeyes still don't look like an elite team to me, but they still keep getting the job done. I guess we'll all find out if these guys are for real in the NCAAs.
Wisconsin 52, Michigan St. 50: Alando Tucker scored 26 on senior day, and Kammron Taylor fittingly hit the game-winner. Losing Brian Butch might turn out to be huge, though, because the "Swing" offense doesn't look right at the moment. Back-ups Greg Stiemsma and Jason Chappell can't stretch defenses like Butch can. Drew Neitzel is doing his best Gerry McNamara impression and carrying the Spartans by himself into the tournament.
Georgetown 59, UConn 46: Too bad this team doesn't run their offense through Jeff Green. Then they might actually reach their true potential. Hibbert is a good college player, but Green is dynamic and is a true game-changer. As is, however, the Hoyas were able to win the Big East outright (with Pitt falling 75-71 to Marquette). They'll likely grab a 2-seed if they can win their conference tourney.
Wake Forest 78, Virginia 72: The Cavs had a huge letdown failing to wrap up the regular-season ACC title. Instead, UNC and Virginia Tech get their shots to tie atop the standings Sunday.
