Vice chancellor criticizes student’s anti-Semitic Facebook comments

A UCLA official criticized anti-Semitic comments made by a UCLA student on Facebook in an email statement sent to the student body Wednesday. Janina Montero, vice chancellor for student affairs, sent the email after a pro-Israel group on campus condemned an undergraduate student for a series of comments posted on the Facebook status of Jewish actress and UCLA alumna Mayim Bialik. Pasadena city manager appointed UCLA administrative vice chancellor

A Pasadena city manager will serve as the next administrative vice chancellor effective March, UCLA officials announced in a statement Friday. Michael Beck has operated Pasadena’s $685 million budget and manages city departments, such as the fire, police, public works and transportation departments, since the beginning of his term as city manager in October 2008. Vote for Our Future aims to increase Bruin voter turnout

After struggling with low student voter turnout in his work on various political campaigns, Joe Jacobson decided he wanted to turn the numbers around. Jacobson, a third-year political science and economics student, and Steve Charmello, a second-year business economics student, created a student organization in June that aims to get all eligible UCLA students registered over the next four years. UC tentatively extends contract with postdoctoral workers union

The University of California and the postdoctoral workers union tentatively reached an agreement Thursday that would extend their current contract through September 2016. United Auto Workers Local 5810, which represents more than 6,000 postdoctoral researchers in the UC, has been negotiating its contract with the University since May, said UC spokesperson Rebecca Trounson.
