Student demands equal pay for full-time and student workers

A Bruin Cafe student employee is demanding that UCLA pay students and full-time workers in UCLA dining services equal wages. Dana Carrera, a rising third-year sociology student, started a petition last Friday that calls for UCLA Dining Services to pay its student workers $16.32 an hour, which is the starting wage for full-time employees. Tender Greens, a California chain of restaurants that staffs fine-dining chefs and serves locally sourced food, opened Monday, nearly two years after originally scheduled. New Bruin Send-off program reaches diverse, international student groups

Alumni host meetups in California and around the world every summer to prepare incoming students for their first year at UCLA. These events, called New Bruin Send-offs, give incoming students the opportunity to meet other Bruins in their area, said Amber Buggs, assistant director of the Bruin Recruitment program in UCLA Alumni Association. Police investigate Navy SEAL for death of UCLA employee

A UCLA employee died in Santa Monica June 12 after an unknown man attacked him the day before. Kris Anderson, a 57-year-old UCLA Extension employee, who worked at the school for about 35 years, sustained several blows and a stab wound to his face June 11, according to the coroner’s report. New KazuNori location brings hand-rolled sushi to Westwood Village

Sushi chefs swiftly rolled rice, fish and seaweed in front of dozens of new customers who visited a restaurant when it opened Tuesday. KazuNori, located in a recently restored building on Gayley and Kinross avenues, is a sushi bar where chefs prepare sushi by hand instead of using a mat, said Clement Mok, one of the brand’s founding members.
