Tabatha Lewis, a third-year mathematics of computation student, bought her bright red palazzo pants at a boutique in Spain, where the style is increasingly prominent, she said. She kept the rest of her outfit neutral, with a basic, black tank top from Brandy Melville and white Adidas sneakers. Lewis said she likes to stay comfortable as she walks from her South Campus classes to her North Campus ones. “It’s really nice for the hot weather, to not die in jeans,” she said.

Liliana Bollinger, a second-year pre-international development studies student, inherited her pants from her father, who bought them to wear at a Renaissance fair, where they functioned as a part of his pirate costume. Her moonstone necklace was passed down to her by her mother, matching the crescent moon tattoo on her arm. She said the earthier tones of her outfit, such as her olive green pants, reflect the vibe of autumn. Although Bollinger usually wears jeans, they are typically looser or flared, she said.

Rio Hayashi bought her bronze, pleated, wide-legged pants from Goodwill, where she buys most of her clothes, she said. The third-year international development studies student wore buckled boots from Zara and a crisp, white T-shirt. Hayashi said she prefers the loose silhouette and owns other similar bottoms, such as chino pants and boyfriend jeans.

Cynthia Carrillo, a second-year biology student kept it airy, wearing flared pink pants with lace panels at the bottom. Carrillo said she owns around five other pairs of wide-legged pants, which typically feature patterns such as stripes. “Class is very long, the days are long, so I just want to be comfortable throughout the day,” she said.

First-year astrophysics student Karina Barboza donned sunny yellow pants tied at the waist and a bright, floral-print top. She also wore a bedazzled giraffe on a chain around her neck. She said she gets most of her clothes from small boutiques in her hometown of Compton, California. Barboza said her favorite color to wear is pink because it goes with her hair, which she dyed a vibrant salmon color before the school year started.
