Photo: Sand Fire continues to burn through Santa Clarita Valley

A helicopter flies over hills and trees as it helps fight the Sand Fire near Santa Clarita, California. As of Thursday, the fire has burned about 38,000 acres or almost 60 square miles. About 3,000 fire fighters fighting the fire have contained about 65 percent of the fire. The fire has burned down 18 homes and threatened thousands at its height.
