The nearly weeklong NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship is halfway done and the Bruins are in a good position to advance to match play.

At the conclusion of the second round Saturday, UCLA as a team was only one shot above par but still eight shots behind first-place USC. However, after advancing six shots Sunday, the Bruins now only trail the Trojans by two strokes.

Junior Bronte Law led the team with a 69 and is at -4 this weekend, three strokes shy of second place. Duke freshman Virginia Elena Carta is running away with the tournament, as she is six strokes ahead of the rest of the field, and nine strokes ahead of Law.

Other than Law, freshman Bethany Wu and Lilia Vu were also at or under par Sunday. The three, along with senior Louise Ridderström, are all in the top 50 –Vu and Ridderström are at even par and one under par in the tournament, respectively.

UCLA heads into the last day of stroke play tied for second with Duke. The top eight teams will advance to match play starting Tuesday.

As of right now, those eight teams are USC, UCLA, Duke, Washington, Stanford, Oregon and South Carolina, with Virginia and Arizona tied for eighth place.

The Bruins are two strokes under par and have eleven strokes of insurance on Arizona and Virginia. If they qualify for match play, they will aim for their first championship since 2011.
