Letter to the Editor: UC-Mexico Initiative not in jeopardy

By Daily Bruin Staff

May 3, 2016 12:00 a.m.

Dear Editor:

Thank you for your recent column drawing attention to the UC-Mexico Initiative, an important University of California program that President Janet Napolitano launched in January 2014.

As you correctly pointed out, the initiative has had a profound impact on the UC community, educating the next generation of students through cultural exchange, shared activities and research collaborations. Synergizing efforts among various campuses and their programs with Mexico, the UC will continue leveraging this platform to foster partnerships on both sides of the border.

I appreciate that you dispelled the rumor about the program being in jeopardy.

To the contrary, the president has affirmed her full support for the UC-Mexico Initiative through continued funding, a nod to the program’s positive influence and tremendous success at the UC and beyond.

Claire Doan

UC spokesperson
