Bruins living on the Hill may have already heard about or experienced firsthand the most recent change in your on-campus dining options. That’s right, I am talking about the newest topic that’s making its rounds: residential restaurant Rendezvous being open on the weekends. However, that is only part of the story, because Feast dining hall is now closed on weekends instead. So we asked Bruins living on the Hill for their opinions on Rendezvous’s new weekend opening hours, whether it’s worth sacrificing Feast for it and other changes they would like UCLA Dining to implement.

“I like Feast; it’s the only place I can eat alone.”

—Michael Hicks, second-year applied mathematics student

“I’ve never been to Feast…”

—Suraj Palaparty, first-year physiological science student

“I feel it’s a lot more convenient for me, but I’ve never been to Feast so I wouldn’t be able to evaluate that. Better yet, (Cafe) 1919 should be open on the weekends instead of Bruin Café, because (Bruin Café) food is not as good, especially the vegetarian and vegan options.”

—Neel Patel, first-year neuroscience student

“I think that having a grab-and-go station open on the weekends besides Bruin Café is an amazing idea. It’s something I’ve been wanting since last year. But to sacrifice Feast (for it) doesn’t seem logical. The facility is much bigger than Rendezvous, and judging from Saturday, Rendezvous may not do the job. Granted, it could be because it is the first weekend Rendezvous is open. Although I am very happy Rendezvous is open on the weekends, I think UCLA Dining Services could have left out Covel instead of Feast.”

—Emily Yamane, second-year applied mathematics student

“I’m pretty disappointed that Feast is now closed on the weekends to make way for Rendezvous. I’d much rather eat healthy and somewhat authentic Asian food over highly processed and high calorie junk.”
