USAC recap — Dec. 1

The Undergraduate Students Association Council is the official student government representing the undergraduate student body at UCLA. Council meetings take place every week on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Kerckhoff 417 and are open to all students. Watch a live stream of the meetings on the USAC Live! YouTube channel.

Agenda Items

  • The council unanimously passed a resolution disapproving the Campus Safety Act. The Campus Safety Act, if passed, will require sexual assault survivors to report to the police before the university can investigate those claims of sexual assault.
  • The council unanimously approved an allocation of $918 from the Contingency Programming Fund.

Officer Reports

  • President Heather Rosen said the plan to enroll an extra 10,000 students across all UC campuses will cause strain to UCLA, in aspects of housing and classroom sizes.
  • Internal Vice President Heather Hourdequin compiled a list of rights tenants in Westwood are entitled to and plans to distributed that information at the next off-campus living fair to inform future residents.
  • Hourdequin said she is planning ways to make Ackerman Union a more useful space for students.
  • Academic Affairs Commissioner Trent Kajikawa said he is starting conversations with administrators about online education and cross enrollment. Kajikawa added he is looking into adding a question on professor evaluations to determine whether or not professors are creating an inclusive environment in the classroom.
