Senior tennis player Catherine Harrison was upset Monday in the championship match of the USTA/ITA Southwest Regionals.

Harrison, the No. 1 seed in the San Diego-based tournament, lost to No. 10-seed Luisa Stefani of Pepperdine.

The Bruin reached the finals with a victory over USC’s Gabrielle Smith on Sunday.

Harrison, the reigning Pac-12 singles champion, won the doubles portion of the regionals in 2013, along with then-teammate Jennifer Brady.

Sophomore Kristin Wiley also competed in the tournament, blanking USD’s Marisa Marsh 6-0, 6-0 in the first round before losing to the second seed, USC’s Madison Westby, in a three-set match.

In her previous tournament – the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships in early October – Harrison lost in the first round of main draw singles, falling to No. 16 Klara Fabikova of Cal in a rematch of last year’s Pac-12 singles final. She went on to lose in the consolation semifinals to No. 23 Jasmine Lee of Mississippi State.

Wiley competed last weekend in the Long Beach State Invitational, where she advanced through two rounds in the A flight before losing to Long Beach State’s Maeva Razakasoa in the semifinals.

Next on the schedule for the Bruins is the Kramer Classic in Rolling Hills Estates, Calif. which begins Nov. 6.
