Three people were sent to the hospital Wednesday afternoon after a cement truck overturned on Sunset Boulevard.

A portion of the road was closed in both directions for about three hours. UCLA officials had recommended drivers avoid the area.

The cement truck was traveling northbound on Veteran Avenue and at least two other vehicles were involved in the accident, said Juan Ramirez, a Los Angeles Fire Department firefighter.

Police redirected some drivers from Sunset Boulevard to Bellagio Drive.

Firefighters first received a call about the incident at 1:40 p.m., said LAFD spokesperson Brian Humphrey.

It is unknown whether the injured people are affiliated with UCLA.

No further information was immediately available. The case is still under investigation.

Anyone with information about this case can call the Los Angeles Police Department West Traffic Division at 213-473-0222.
