Two UCLA football seniors were named to the 2015 Biletnikoff Award and Wuerffel Trophy Watch Lists on Wednesday morning, as receiver Jordan Payton joined center Jake Brendel in the preseason honors.
This is the second year in a row that Payton has been on the watch list for the Biletnikoff Award, which recognizes the NCAA’s top receiver. Last year, however, the then-junior was added to the list in late October.
After starting every game of the 2014 season, Payton was selected as an honorable mention all-conference player. He led the team with 67 catches, the sixth-highest single-season total in UCLA history.
Brendel is one of 80 players on the Wuerffel Trophy watch list, which is an annual community service award. This is his third watch list for the 2015 season. The Bruin co-captain was the lone UCLA representative on the 2015 Rimington Trophy list, while he joined junior defensive linemen Kenny Clark and Eddie Vanderdoes for the Outland Trophy.
The winner of the Wuerffel Trophy will be announced on Dec. 8, while the Biletnikoff Award announcement will come two days later in an awards show on ESPN.
