University police are searching for a man who hit a UCLA student on Glenrock Avenue early Friday after the student refused to give him money.

The man approached the student about 5:55 a.m. near 555 Glenrock Ave. and asked the student for money, according to a UCPD statement. When the student refused, the man struck the student and fled southbound on Levering Avenue and then ran east on Strathmore Avenue.

The student reported no injuries.

The man was described as white in his late 20s, 5 feet 8 inches tall and 160 pounds, according to the statement. He was wearing a blue T-shirt, blue jeans and glasses.

No further information was immediately available. The case is still under investigation.

UCPD recommends that students do not walk alone at night, have a friend accompany them or keep in contact with a friend, and to call for assistance if they see someone or something suspicious.

Anyone with information about this incident can call UCPD at (310) 825-1491.
