ASUCLA employee arrested for alleged embezzlement

Police arrested an Associated Students UCLA employee last week for allegedly embezzling almost $200,000 from the ASUCLA textbook buyback program over a span of about two years.
UCPD officers arrested the UCLA Store’s manager of used textbooks, a 47-year-old man, at about 6 p.m. on July 2 on suspicion of embezzlement, said UCPD spokeswoman Nancy Greenstein. The man was released the following evening on $75,000 bail, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department records.
The alleged embezzlement took place between June 2013 and March 2015, according to UCPD logs.
Robert Williams, executive director of ASUCLA, declined to comment because of the ongoing investigation.
The ASUCLA textbook buyback program, located at the A-Level of Ackerman Union, allows students to return textbooks they bought at the UCLA Store.
