UCLA baseball reeled in two awards and six first-team all-conference honors Wednesday morning, when the Pac-12 announced its all-conference baseball awards.

The Bruins’ senior closer, David Berg, was named Pac-12 Pitcher of the Year, and coach John Savage was named Pac-12 Coach of the Year. Berg also took home this award in 2013, when he set the NCAA record for saves in a single season with 24.

For Savage, this is his first time winning the Pac-12 Coach of the Year award in his 11 years as UCLA’s coach. He guided the Bruins (42-14, 22-8 Pac-12) to their first-ever No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament this year.

All-conference honors

Berg was one of six Bruins to earn first-team All-Pac-12 honors. It’s the fourth straight year that Berg has been named to the first team. He was joined by fellow reliever and sophomore setup man Grant Dyer, who’s making his first appearance on the all-conference first team.

Along with the two relief pitchers, the Bruins had two starting pitchers named to the All-Pac-12 first team: junior James Kaprielian, who’s on the team for the second time, and senior Grant Watson, who earned the first-team nod for the first time in his four-year career.

Two Bruin position players joined the four pitchers on the first-team all-conference squad. Redshirt junior shortstop Kevin Kramer and junior left fielder Ty Moore were both named to the all-conference first team for the first time in their careers.

Honorable mentions

Freshman pitcher Griffin Canning, sophomore first baseman Luke Persico and redshirt sophomore catcher Darrell Miller Jr. were each given all-conference honorable mention designations.
