University police are searching for a man wanted for hitting an employee with a metal baton at the Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center on Friday.

About 11:40 p.m. Friday, the man refused to leave the hospital area, grabbed the baton from his backpack and hit the employee once. He then ran northbound onto 17th Street in Santa Monica.

The employee reported minor injuries, according to a UCPD statement.

The man was described as white, 25 to 30 years old, about 5-foot-7-inches and 180 pounds with a thin build and shoulder-length blond hair.

Police said he was wearing an old green camouflage jacket, a gray shirt and light-blue jeans.

No additional information was available, and police did not return calls for comment.

Anyone with information about the incident can call UCPD at 310-825-1491 or leave an anonymous tip at 310-794-5824.
