Corey Pavin became the most successful golfer to ever step foot at UCLA. During his time at UCLA, Pavin was an All-American and conference player of the year. He's gone on pro to 15 PGA Tours wins, 1 European Tour win, 2 Japan Golf Tour wins, 2 PGA Tour of Australasia wins, 1 Champions Tour win, and won the U.S. Open in 1995.

Michael Douglas presented awards for the winners of the Diane Thomas Screenwriting Awards. 1st prize was $5000. The award was named after an extension student who's script Douglas starred in. Since the awards debut, many have sold their scripts or opted to finding their own agents.

The UCLA undergraduate nursing program was almost cut entirely when Chancellor Charles Young was going to cut more than $500,000 during 1982-83.

Exiled South African Trevor Fowler came to UCLA to speak out against apartheid. He worked with the African National Congress to change conditions but this visit tried to spark interest and commitment from UCLA students.
