UCLA officially announced several football coaching personnel moves Tuesday, including the hiring of new defensive coordinator Tom Bradley, after ESPN reported Monday that he was hired. Bruin Report Online was first to report UCLA’s interest in Bradley. Other coaching moves including the hiring of new linebackers/special teams coach Scott White and the promotion of defensive backs coach Demetrice Martin to assistant head coach.

“To bring a coach of Tom Bradley’s caliber to UCLA is very exciting,” said UCLA football coach Jim Mora in a statement. “His knowledge of the game, extensive experience, level of intensity and attention to detail all make him one of the best defensive teachers in college football. Combine that with the fact that he has strong national recruiting ties and is one of the most well respected coaches in the game – it all adds up to Tom being a tremendous addition to our staff.”

Bradley served as senior associate head coach at West Virginia last season and was previously defensive coordinator at Penn State from 2000 to 2011. He was named the Associated Press Defensive Coordinator of the Year in 2005 and the Rivals Defensive Coordinator of the Year in 2008.

Bradley was promoted to interim coach for Penn State in 2011 to replace former coach Joe Paterno.

Joining Bradley on the coaching staff is new linebackers coach Scott White, replacing Mike Tuiasosopo, who UCLA announced will not be retained. White had previously been a graduate assistant for UCLA and part of the Bruins’ defensive staff for the past four seasons.

White previously was a linebackers coach at Palomar College and an assistant coach for Central Washington University. He played outside linebacker for Washington from 2003 to 2006.

The final coaching move was the promotion of defensive backs coach Demetrice Martin to assistant head coach. Martin will also retain his defensive back duties as well.
