Westwood BID recap – Feb. 19

The Westwood Village Improvement Association, also known as the BID, is a nonprofit organization tasked with improving the state of Westwood Village. The BID was created by property and business owners in August 2011 to provide Westwood Village with functions the City of Los Angeles could not provide. Its board of directors meets monthly.

• Andrew Thomas, executive director of the BID, said L.A. Express Park, a demand-based parking system, will come to Westwood in April. Pay meters from Express Park use sensors that prevent meter feeding, which can boost available parking spaces.
• The BID reconstructed a portion of the sidewalk on the north side of Weyburn Avenue in recent weeks.
• Thomas said the L.A. Department of Transportation installed a new bike rail on Broxton Avenue that features a bike maintenance component for pumping up bicycle tires.
• A town hall meeting will be held at 5 p.m. on Feb. 23 in Oppenheimer Tower to discuss potential bike lane plans for Westwood Village.
• Thomas said the BID will distribute a Westwood map and directory to local businesses.
• The board voted to spend $45,000 to hire Urban Place Consulting Group to renew and extend the BID’s plan when it expires in 2016.
• The board also voted to support a York Consulting Group proposal that outlines business attraction and retention strategies for the Village. Recommendations laid out in the report will be assigned to BID committees.
