The Undergraduate Students Association Council is the official student government representing the undergraduate student body at UCLA. Council meetings take place every week on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in Kerckhoff Hall 417 and are open to all students. Watch a live stream of the meeting on the USAC Live! Youtube Channel.

Agenda

  • The council unanimously approved “A Resolution to Divest from the Republic of Turkey to End the Perpetuation of the Armenian Genocide,” which was drafted by the Armenian Students’ Association, with a vote of 12-0-0. The resolution called on the University of California to divest from the Republic of Turkey to end the perpetuation of the Armenian Genocide
  • USAC approved the allocation of $3,300 from contingency funding with a vote of 10-0-2.

Special presentations

  • Representatives of Fund the UC, Morris Sarafian and Denea Joseph, made a special presentation to council about Fund the UC’s campaign to seek ways to stabilize and reduce tuition at UCLA.
  • The Armenian Students’ Association presented “A Resolution to Divest from the Republic of Turkey to End the Perpetuation of the Armenian Genocide” to council. The presenters said the resolution aims to raise awareness about the factuality of the Armenian Genocide and acts as a way of holding the Republic of Turkey accountable for the crimes committed against Armenians and others in the early 20th century.

Officer reports

  • President Avinoam Baral plans to meet with UCPD and asked people to bring issues forward to him. Baral also announced that he is continuing work on plans to build a café in Powell Library.
  • Student Wellness Commissioner Savannah Badalich announced that this week is Consent Week. She said one of the biggest goals for this week is for students to understand what consent means and to support survivors of sexual violence. On Wednesday, Jan. 21, the Student Wellness Commission is hosting a day fair on Kerckhoff patio from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to address sexual violence against men.
  • Transfer Student Representative Negeen Sadeghi-Movahed voiced her disappointment concerning a submission to the Daily Bruin earlier in the week that said the campus approach to transfer students is overly patronizing.
