All self-identified women can audition this week for UCLA’s fourth annual student-run production of “The Vagina Monologues.”

Students can sign up online to audition Tuesday through Thursday in the Covel Commons South Bay Room on the Hill. No prior acting experience is necessary.

“The Vagina Monologues” is a play featuring episodes about women’s perspectives on different aspects of womanhood, from discovering their sexuality to coping with sexual abuse. Written in 1994 by Eve Ensler, the play helped spark a movement called V-Day, which aims to end violence against women and girls worldwide.

The performance, put on by the Social Awareness Network for Activism through Art, is meant to educate and provide an opportunity for discussion about issues that affect women. It also aims to create a space to celebrate femininity.

Students who pass the audition round will be invited to callbacks Saturday from 5 to 10 p.m.
