UCLA cross country traveled to Indiana last weekend to compete in its first NCAA championships together since 1985.

The women finished in typical fashion as senior Kelsey Smith was the 86th woman to cross the finish line, leading her team to a 27th-place finish in her final collegiate cross country competition. Seniors Bronte Golick, Annie Mooney, Meghan Marvin and sophomore Aliya Shirif rounded out UCLA’s scoring five in 97th, 142nd, 165th and 243rd respectively.

Junior Sergey Sushchikh spearheaded the men’s effort on Saturday, crossing the finish line at 54th to anchor the Bruins. The team was also represented by redshirt junior Lane Werley and junior Nick Hartle in 92nd and 113th place respectively, with sophomores Ferdinand Edman and Austin O’Neil in 208th and 238th.

The strong championship performance aptly capped off UCLA cross country’s most successful season in recent history.
