The UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine recently received a $50 million grant from the estate of a wealthy Pacific Palisades couple, the university announced Thursday.

The estate of Norman and Irma Switzer, who sold advertisements for bus benches and invested in real estate, donated the money. The couple had been involved with the Fowler Museum at UCLA, according to the university.

The money, which the school may choose to spend however it chooses, will also go toward the UCLA Centennial Campaign. The campaign seeks to raise $4.2 billion by 2019, when UCLA will have its 100th anniversary.

The university renamed the UCLA Center for Health Sciences Plaza to the Irma and Norman Switzer Plaza following the donation.

Norman Switzer died in 2011 and Irma Switzer died in 2013, according to the university.
