Associated Students UCLA is a multimillion-dollar organization that provides student services and activities that the university does not fund. It oversees the Undergraduate Students Association Council, Graduate Students Association, Communications Board, campus services and enterprises.

Proposals

  • The board discussed the possibility of adding a café to Powell Library, and the research that would be needed beforehand into how much potential business the café could expect.
  • Members discussed a proposal to set up an ASUCLA YouTube channel that would post videos after board meetings to inform the student body of the board’s activities, and promote events such as sales.
  • Members discussed bringing food trucks on campus during finals weeks. Graduate Representative David Zeke raised concerns about about how much business the trucks would see and how healthy the food options would be.

Store

  • UCLA Store sales are up this month from last year, led by strong sales in the computer department.
  • The Monster Sale on Oct. 29 exceeded its plans by $108,000.
  • The BearWear T-shirt design contest is now underway, and the deadline for submissions is Nov. 10.

Construction

  • School officials expected a Kikka Sushi restaurant to be open on the A-level of Ackerman Union by the end of fall, but has not been completed. Tsunami will remain open until Kikka Sushi is ready to open.

Food

  • Food sales are up from last month but still $55,000 below budget.
  • Rx Candy on the first floor of Ackerman Union has been renamed Sweet Spot and has changed to healthier options; sales are higher than expected.
  • Food sales have been strong across campus with the exception of Taco Bell, which fell behind its expected sales.
