University police are looking for a man who brandished a handgun at a UCLA student on Landfair Avenue Thursday night.

The UCLA student was walking south on Landfair Avenue near Midvale Avenue around midnight when she came up to a man pacing on the sidewalk. He lifted his shirt to show a handgun tucked in his waistband and shouted profanity at the student. Upon seeing the gun, she screamed for help and ran away.

The man was last seen running west toward Midvale Avenue.

The man was 20 to 25 years old and 6 feet tall with a stocky build and brown medium-length hair. He was wearing a white long-sleeved shirt, blue jeans and white basketball shoes.

Police recommend that students remain alert while walking in Westwood at night and travel with a friend whenever possible.

Anyone with information can call UCPD at (310) 825-1491.
