The Undergraduate Students Association Council is the official student government of UCLA’s undergraduate students. Council meetings take place every week on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in Kerckhoff 417 and are open to all students. Watch a live stream of the meeting on the USAC Live! YouTube channel.

Agenda

  • The council approved contingency programming allocations with a 9-0-1 vote.
  • USAC unanimously voted to set council meeting times for Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in Kerckhoff 417 until the end of fall quarter.

Officer reports

  • USAC President Devin Murphy said members of his office may develop a UCPD oversight committee in light of recent alleged racial profiling incidents. He added that he wants to meet twice with Chancellor Gene Block each quarter instead of just once and increase students’ access to the UCLA chancellor. He added that USAC is hosting an open house on Oct. 1 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in councilmember offices in Kerckhoff Hall.
  • Internal Vice President Avinoam Baral updated councilmembers about their upcoming retreat and its schedule.
  • External Vice President Conrad Contreras said his office is looking for volunteers to help register students to vote in government elections at UCLA’s annual Volunteer Day.
  • Academic Affairs Commissioner Allyson Bach said she plans to meet with Beth Goodhue, an assistant director of the UCLA Center for Community Learning, and Kyle McJunkin, director of curriculum coordination and operations, to talk about academic appointments and ways to work together this year.

Appointments

  • The council unanimously approved the members of the USAC 2014-2015 Election Board. Flora Ziprin, a third-year psychology student, was appointed the head of investigations. Luzdelia Caballero, a third-year communication studies and Spanish student, was appointed the head of external relations. Alison Malanowski, a second-year business economics student, was appointed to the executive committee. Kai Convery, a second-year communication studies student, was appointed to the executive committee. Nick Nieto, a third-year pre-business economics student, was appointed as the publicity chair. Cassie Anglin, a third-year nursing student, was appointed to the executive committee. Kimberly Paredes, a third-year psychobiology student, was appointed as vice chair. Sean-Luc Shanahan, a third-year biochemistry student, was appointed as the head of endorsement hearings.
