Five-star QB recruit Josh Rosen officially signs with UCLA

Brett Hundley’s left elbow injury cast a shadow of doubt over the immediate future of the quarterback position at UCLA. It is still uncertain when UCLA’s redshirt junior starting quarterback will return. The long-term future, however, just became more clear.

Five-star quarterback prospect Josh Rosen signed with UCLA on Monday, the school announced. He will enroll and take classes in winter quarter.

Rosen committed to the Bruins on March 20, but didn’t feel the need to wait until National Signing Day in February to make things official.

The top-ranked quarterback prospect, according to Scout.com and Rivals.com, led his high school, St. John Bosco in Bellflower, to the state title as a junior last season, throwing for 3,200 yards and 39 touchdowns while completing 68.6 percent of his passes. St. John Bosco currently has the top-ranked high school team in the nation, according to USA Today.

With Hundley likely leaving for the NFL following this season, Rosen will compete with redshirt sophomore Jerry Neuheisel and redshirt freshman Asiantii Woulard for the starting quarterback spot in the spring.
