Letter to the Editor: Jewish Student Union denounces anti-Semitic fliers

By Daily Bruin Staff

Aug. 18, 2014 4:47 a.m.

Editor‘s Note: The following letter appeared first on the Jewish Student Union’s Facebook page. It has been edited for Daily Bruin style and re-printed below.

On Aug. 12, fliers covered with swastikas and anti-Jewish rhetoric were sent to a Jewish-owned business in Westwood, near the UCLA campus. On behalf of the organized Jewish community of UCLA, the Jewish Student Union expresses its sadness and outrage over this blatant attack on a Jewish business owner and vehemently condemns these bigoted notes. It is deplorable, after hearing of so much anti-Semitism in various countries around the world, to see such hatred in our own community. Rather than allowing this event to cultivate further ignorance and intolerance, we hope to see our campus and community thrive as an environment that fosters inclusivity and embraces all cultures and religions. We stand in support with the business owner and will be reaching out to him in the coming days.

Nath is a fourth-year English student and president of the Jewish Student Union.
