Pretrial hearing for Omar Arce set for May 30

April 22, 2014 1:42 p.m.

Former undergraduate student government officer Omar Arce will next appear in court May 30 for a pretrial hearing, according to a Los Angeles Superior Court spokesman.

The Los Angeles City Attorney’s office charged Arce in early April with three counts of sexual battery, one count of battery and one count of false imprisonment. He pleaded not guilty to all charges at his April 4 arraignment.

At a pretrial hearing, the district attorney and defense lawyer discuss the evidence they have accumulated about the case. They also set a future trial date for witnesses to come to the courthouse and give testimonies.

If Arce is convicted of all charges, he could face a maximum sentence of four and a half years in prison.

Arce was the Undergraduate Students Association Council community service commissioner and a fourth-year international development studies student. He was arrested by university police after a female student reported an alleged series of sexual batteries involving Arce between October and March.

USAC unanimously appointed a new community service commissioner, Alex Lee, at its April 8 meeting.

Arce’s pretrial hearing will take place at the Los Angeles Superior Court airport courthouse.
