UCLA men’s basketball signed 6-foot-9 guard/forward Jonah Bolden to a National Letter of Intent, the team announced Wednesday.

“We are thrilled to add a player of Jonah’s caliber to our program,” said coach Steve Alford in a statement. “Not only is he a talented young man, but he’s also very coachable, has great character and will immediately add to our team’s depth.”

Originally from Sydney, Australia, Bolden played high school ball at Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H. where he led his team to a National Prep Championship this season. Bolden is a consensus four-star recruit, and his national rankings ranges from No. 31 according to Scout.com to No. 69 by ESPN.com.

Bolden’s height, athleticism, passing and shooting ability give him high potential, but his lack of strength for his position – Bolden weighs just 205 pounds – is an area in which he will need to improve.

Bolden will join five-star forward Kevon Looney, four-star center Thomas Welsh and three-star forward Gyorgy Goloman to give UCLA needed front court depth with its 2014 class.

“Bringing in Kevon, Thomas, Gyorgy and now Jonah, and I think you have to include (freshman guard) Isaac Hamilton in this group after his year off, it’s safe to say we are excited about this group,” Alford said in a statement.
