Many students were awakened Monday by an early morning 4.4 magnitude earthquake.

The quake struck about 5.6 miles from Westwood at 6:25 a.m. According to a UCLA BruinAlert released at 7:06 a.m., no damage or injuries were reported and the campus is still open. The Los Angeles Fire Department checked all major infrastructures – including hospitals and roadways – and found no sign of major damage or injuries, said Katherine Main, spokeswoman for LAFD.

Nick Benzoni, a third-year mechanical engineering student who had a final at 8 a.m., said he is familiar with earthquakes, having lived in Southern California for 14 years. But he said this one was one of the strongest he has felt recently.

Another smaller 2.7 earthquake hit about 5.6 miles from Westwood at around 7:23 a.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
