UCLA baseball loses against Waseda University, 2-1

After a loss to Loyola Marymount earlier in the week, UCLA baseball could not gain enough momentum to overcome Waseda University from Japan in an exhibition game on Wednesday.

It may be early in the season, but UCLA has demonstrated great difficulty executing on the plate, after failing to take advantage of base hits and at-bats in numerous occasions.

Waseda got a head start on Wednesday, scoring in the top of the second inning.

After three scoreless innings, freshman outfielder Brett Stephens was able to get to home, the sole run for the night, with the help of a double from freshman infielder Luke Persico.

After tying in the fourth inning, UCLA’s offense could not gain enough traction to put more runs on the board.

Waseda scored in the top of the ninth inning making it a 2-1 game and giving the Bruins their second straight loss, though this will not count against their record.

UCLA will have a chance to redeem itself in a full weekend, facing Pepperdine, Houston and crosstown rival USC.
