Work is in progress.

The UCLA track and field team finished up another weekend in which the team was split.

The distance runners traveled to Seattle for the Husky Classic as the rest of the team made their way to Albuquerque, N.M to compete in the Don Kirby Elite Invite.

The highlights of the weekend were senior thrower Ida Storm, senior pole vaulter Mike Woepse, sophomore thrower Nicholas Scarvelis and senior thrower Alec Faldermeyer.

Storm finished first in the women’s weight throw at the Don Kirby Elite Invite with a top score of 21.37 meters. The score was the sixth-best in the country thus far in the indoor season.

Woepse continued his strong season as he placed second in the men’s pole vault with a score of 5.50m.

Scarvelis and Faldermeyer both finished third in their respective events.

While there were strong performances this past weekend, many top competitors on the Bruins struggled.

On the women’s side, junior sprinter and jumper Kylie Price finished seventh in the women’s 60m dash as well as finishing fourth in the women’s long jump.

Nationally ranked freshman jumper Caroline Gyllenbern failed to establish a top-five placing for the second time this season, coming in seventh in the women’s high jump after finishing first last week.

On the men’s side, nationally ranked freshman thrower Braheme Days has dropped off a little bit as he placed eighth in the men’s shot put this weekend after finishing first and fourth in the last two meets, respectively.

Sophomore distance runner Nick Hartle has been a consistent athlete for the men’s team this season, but did not perform up to par as he finished 14th in the men’s 1-mile run at Seattle.

The Bruins have had an encouraging start to the season, but the athletes must stay consistent if they hope to qualify for nationals.

The team will train hard through the week in preparation for next weekend’s MPSF championships held at the University of Washington.
