Mora declines position as Texas’ football head coach

Mack Brown’s successor will soon be named, but it won’t be Jim Mora.
As originally reported by Bruce Feldman of CBS Sports, Jim Mora has withdrawn his name from consideration for the football head coach vacancy at the University of Texas.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Thursday that Texas had reached out to Mora’s representatives and was “very interested” in bringing him aboard, while Baylor’s Art Briles indicated he would accept the job if offered.
Mora signed a six-year contract extension on Dec. 3, his second in two seasons as football coach. He is fresh off guiding the Bruins to their first bowl game victory since 2009 and is undefeated in two tries against USC.
Mora has also been in consideration for a few other jobs this offseason. His alma mater, the University of Washington, was in the midst of a head coaching search when UCLA offered him an extension. CBS reported that the Minnesota Vikings also reached out to Mora Monday, a day before UCLA faced Virginia Tech in the Sun Bowl.
Mora is 19-8 in two seasons with UCLA. Including the Bruins’s 42-12 Sun Bowl victory, he is 17-0 when his team had a lead at halftime.
