In its first tournament of the year, UCLA women’s tennis won the doubles title at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championship over the weekend at the Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles.

Junior Robin Anderson and freshman Jennifer Brady teamed up to earn UCLA’s first ever doubles title at the All-American event, defeating USC’s duo of junior Giuliana Olmos and junior Zoe Scandalis 6-4, 6-2.

Anderson and Brady cruised through the opening four rounds, defeating pairs from Tulsa 8-4, Baylor 8-4, Texas A&M; 8-2 and North Carolina 6-2, 6-4 before reaching the championship round against USC.

Anderson nearly won the singles tournament as well, which would have been a first for UCLA at this event. Anderson, who was the No. 1 seed, reached the final round against freshman Jamie Loeb of North Carolina before falling to Loeb 6-4, 6-0.

Also competing for UCLA in the singles competition were junior Chanelle Van Nguyen, who lost to Loeb in the first round, and sophomore Kyle McPhillips, who reached the third round.

The Bruins’ next competition will be the Rock Hills Rocks Open in Rock Hill, South Carolina, beginning on Sunday, Oct. 13.
