Trevon Bluiett commits to UCLA basketball Class of 2014

UCLA men’s basketball landed its first Class of 2014 recruit today with the verbal commitment of wing Trevon Bluiett.
Bluiett, who plays for Park Tudor School in Indianapolis, is rated No. 4 in his class in the state of Indiana and No. 41 overall, and holds four-star ratings from ESPN, Rivals and Scout.
The shooting guard/small forward announced his decision via Twitter this afternoon. The announcement came immediately following his official visit to UCLA, which took place this weekend.
“Blessed to have many schools recruiting me,” Bluiett’s tweet read. “But in the end, there’s only one school right for me. I’m officially a Bruin. #UCLA #bruinnation.”
In addition to UCLA, Bluiett had offers from a wide variety of top-tier Division I programs, including Arizona, Michigan, Indiana and Georgetown.
The Indianapolis native has an intimate connection with UCLA’s staff through assistant coach Ed Schilling, who coached Bluiett at Park Tudor School before being hired by coach Steve Alford in April. Alford also has close ties to the state of Indiana, having been an All-American guard at the Indiana University in 1986.
Bluiett’s presence as a 6-foot-6-inch shooter who can also drive the lane on command could help soften the blow of losing forwards David and Travis Wear to graduation following the 2013-2014 season.
