Top 5 impact players:

1. Caleb Benenoch – OL, Katy, Texas

The big offensive lineman out of Texas signed with UCLA in part because of a massive void left at right guard by graduating senior Jeff Baca. There is no one on the roster that looks to be an obvious replacement for Baca, which means Benenoch will have a chance to start from day one. UCLA showed last season that it has no problem starting freshmen (particularly out of Texas) as three starters on the line last year were freshmen, with two hailing from the Lone Star State.

2. John Johnson – CB, Fresno, Calif.

UCLA graduated two seniors at the cornerback position this past season, which means the Bruins’ coaching staff will need two new starters along with several major depth pieces. Enter Johnson, who is widely considered one of the most fundamentally sound cornerback prospects in the nation. Expect Johnson to get a look at a starting spot when he arrives for fall camp.

3. Eldridge Massington – WR, Mesquite, Texas

Massington was the only 2013 recruit to arrive at UCLA for winter quarter, and his early enrollment should go a long way toward getting him on the field early. He is a big, physical receiver who also has a track background, which gives him the kind of athletic blend coaches love. Massington is recovering from a torn ACL that he sustained last summer, but he should be fully healed and in the rotation by the start of the season.

4. Alex Redmond – OG, Los Alamitos, Calif.

Redmond is one of the most physically ready prospects in the 2013 recruiting class. He is a good old-fashioned mauler in the trenches, which will be much welcomed on the UCLA offensive line. Redmond, along with Benenoch, will be one of the top candidates to fill Baca’s vacated guard spot.

5. Thomas Duarte – TE, Santa Ana, Calif.

Last year, UCLA tight end Joseph Fauria caught 12 touchdown passes. His departure leaves a huge void in the Bruins’ offense. Duarte has all the makings for stepping in next season and fighting for Fauria’s starting spot. The 6-foot-4-inch, 225-pound tight end is a perfect fit at the Y receiver position that looks to create mismatches with linebackers and safeties.

Top 3 recruiting jobs:

1. Asiantii Woulard – QB, Winter Park, Fla.

UCLA missed out on several local quarterbacks early in the recruiting cycle in Troy Williams (Washington) and Hayden Rettig (LSU), but the Bruins’ staff refused to leave the 2013 recruiting class without a quarterback. UCLA offered Woulard, who was the MVP of the prestigious Elite 11 quarterback camp that included USC commit Max Browne, in mid-January and he quickly took an official visit. Despite only being in contact with Woulard for a few weeks, coach Jim Mora and his staff were able to reel in one of the top quarterback prospects in the nation all the way from Florida.

2. Christian Morris – OT, Memphis, Tenn.

The Bruins took on seven offensive line commitments in the 2013 class, but Morris arguably has the highest ceiling of them all. Morris committed to the Bruins over the summer, but distance and an ongoing barraged of SEC offers made Morris’ commitment seem softer by the day. Fortunately for UCLA, offensive line coach Adrian Klemm refused to let Morris get away, and despite official visits to Mississippi, Nebraska and hometown favorite Tennessee, the Bruins came away with Morris’ signature.

3. Kylie Fitts – DE, Redlands, Calif.

Over the summer, Fitts committed to his lifelong dream school, USC, with intentions to graduate early and join the Trojans in time for Spring Ball. Unfortunately for Fitts, the Trojans’ staff informed Fitts that they did not have space for him to enroll early and he would have to wait until summer to join the program. The defensive end immediately de-committed and the first team to come calling was UCLA. Fitts took an official visit to Westwood and from that point forward, it was almost inevitable that he would end up a Bruin. Defensive line coach Angus McClure deserves a ton of credit for being the first to step in once Fitts de-committed from USC while also holding off overtures from Notre Dame and Utah.
