University police are investigating an armed robbery that took place on Veteran Avenue early this morning.

At about 12:05 a.m., a UCLA student was walking north on Veteran Avenue from Gayley Avenue, when a man came up behind him and held a nickel-plated handgun to his back, according to a UCPD report.

The man demanded that the student hand over his belongings; the student handed over his wallet and cellphone because he feared being shot, the report stated.

The man then fled down Montana Avenue. No injuries were reported from the incident.

The man who robbed the student was described in the report as black, 20 years old, 170 pounds and 5 feet 9 inches tall. He had a light beard and was wearing dark-colored pants and a dark-colored beanie and jacket at the time of the incident.

Anyone with information about the robbery can contact UCPD at (310) 825-1491.
