English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has been making his way across the U.S. touring with Snow Patrol and promoting his album ” “ that comes out June 12. Sheeran will be making a stop at the Hollywood Palladium tonight. Sheeran spoke with Daily Bruin’s Brittany Taylor about his songwriting process, touring in America and his favorite thing to do while in Los Angeles.

Daily Bruin: How long have you been performing?
Ed Sheeran: I’ve been performing for 10 years now. I guess I knew I wanted to do something in music around the same time too when I was about 11.

DB: Who are some of your musical influences?
ES: My influences range from Bob Dylan to Eminem.

DB: How would you describe the sound of your music?
ES: The music that I play is acoustic soul with hip-hop influences.

DB: What is your songwriting process like?
ES: It kind of differs from song to song. Sometimes I come up with lyrics first or the melody first. It kind of differs with whatever mood I’m in.

DB: What have been some of your career highlights so far?
ES: Probably getting a record deal and signing onto a label.

DB: What are some of your musical goals for the future?
ES: Trying to maintain the level of success I’ve obtained by making music I want to play.

DB: How is it touring in the U.S.?
ES: Touring has been really great. Being able to travel America to see all these really great places has been fun. I’m really grateful for it.

DB: How has it been touring with Snow Patrol?
ES: Snow Patrol is great. I was a big fan of them when I was younger, and … I’m an even bigger fan now being able to watch them play every night.

DB: Have you been to Los Angeles before? What’s your favorite thing about Los Angeles?
ES: It’ll be my fifth time coming to Los Angeles. One of my favorite things to do in Los Angeles (is to) go to Umami burger and have an Umami burger with some chips.

DB: What is your favorite song to perform live?
ES: My favorite song to perform live would be a song I have called “Give Me Love.” I really enjoy performing that live.
