USAC Recap ““ Aug. 2

The Undergraduate Students Association Council is the official student government of UCLA’s undergraduate students. Council meetings are Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in Kerckhoff 417 and are open to all students.

Appointments

  • The council unanimously appointed fourth-year business economics student Daniel Feeney to the Community Activities Committee.
  • The council unanimously appointed third-year microbiology, immunology and molecular genetics student Jeffrey Lin as chair of the Community Service Mini Fund.
  • The council appointed fourth-year neuroscience student Gregory Tong to the Community Service Mini Fund with a vote of 5-1-2.
  • The council unanimously appointed fourth-year biology student Sama Haneef to the Campus Programs Committee.
  • The council unanimously appointed fourth-year political science and Chicano/Chicana studies student Yolanda De Loera as an alternate to the Community Activities Committee.
  • The council unanimously appointed fourth-year economics and political science student Carl Betzler to the Campus Programs Committee.
  • The council unanimously appointed fourth-year American Indian studies student Kenneth Ramos to the Campus Programs Committee.

Agenda

  • This week’s contingency allocations passed unanimously.

Officer Reports

  • President Emily Resnick discussed USAC’s presence at Bruinfest during zero week.
  • She updated the council on her office’s efforts to have UC President Mark Yudof hold a press conference during the fall quarter to address tuition increases.
  • Kristina Sidrak, internal vice president, reported on a meeting to discuss possible changes to the Evening Van Service. Her office is also working on updating the UCLA mobile site to include access to Study List, grades, enrollment, dining hall menus and URSA balance information.
  • Joelle Gamble, external vice president, met with student leaders from IDEAS, an advocacy group for undocumented students, to discuss how USAC can help ensure that the university best implements AB 130. She also reported on her experience at the United States Student Association’s National Student Congress in Florida from July 22-27.
  • Raquel Saxe, academic affairs commissioner, discussed her office’s plan to have a fall conference on academic well-being to provide students with resources for dealing with academic stress. She has also been in discussions with Kaplan to offer test preparation services on campus.
