2011 Coachella lineup trumps last year's performers

A three-day concert full of people who may have not showered for days sounds weird, but when an amazing lineup is put together, people are willing to sacrifice hygiene for great music.

The lineup for the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, which runs April 15-17, was revealed yesterday and the Facebook statuses flooded out within minutes. Some of the headliners are Kings of Leon, Arcade Fire and Kanye West. Other artists such as Cold War Kids, Lauryn Hill, Damian Marley and Wiz Khalifa will be making an appearance as well. I almost passed out when I saw these people names’ on the computer screen.

There are different opinions about whether the performers from this year are better than the ones in 2010.

Second-year English student Aria Davis attended Coachella last year for the first time. She described her experience as scary and exciting. Davis got to see artists such as Muse, MGMT and Jay-Z.

The excitement has led her to plan on attending this year. Davis said that she feels the lineup for 2011 surpasses its predecessor.

“I know the poster is even better than last year. We have some really heavy hitters like Kanye West and The Strokes. I’ve heard mixed reviews about it on campus, but I definitely think the lineup is worth it,” Davis said.

I didn’t attend Coachella last year because of setbacks and fears. I also feel that the lineup from 2010 does not compare to this year’s at all. But there is no doubt that I’m going this year.

In the end, Coachella will be a huge event that many will never forget. Who are you excited to see? How do you feel about the new lineup?
