Halloween in Los Angeles is so much more than trick-or-treating and the standard apartment party. Film screenings, festivals, cemetery events and concerts are opportunities to see the town, in costume or not. Daily Bruin Arts and Entertainment put together a list of happenings in the area to choose from for the weekend of Halloween.


Music

Editor’s Pick: 11th Annual Dia de los Muertos
Saturday, 2 p.m.-1 a.m.
Hollywood Forever Cemetery, $10
The Hollywood Forever Cemetery celebrates the Mexican holiday Dia De Los Muertos with performances by Latin rockers Hoppo and the Mexican dream-pop balladeer Carla Morrison .

Royce Hall Organ and Silent Film
Saturday, 8-11 p.m.
Royce Hall, $23-$33
Steven Ball accompanies the silent film “The Phantom of the Opera” (1925) on Royce Hall’s historic Skinner organ.

Boardwalk Brutality
Saturday and Sunday, 12-7 p.m.
Venice Beach Boardwalk, FREE
Twenty-six bands take over the Venice Beach Boardwalk for a weekend of metal music. Bands include The Pain, Jameson, Unsanctified and Rattlehead.

“Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde”
Sunday, 7:30 p.m.
Walt Disney Concert Hall, $37-

This downtown venue is host to the Walt Disney Concert Hall pipe organ, which will be played alongside the screening of “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.”

The Vampire’s Halloween Ball hosted by Snoop Dogg
Saturday, 10 p.m.-2 a.m.
The Kress Hollywood, $25 general admission
With four floors of DJs, Snoop Dogg hosts this Halloween club event at The Kress on Hollywood Boulevard.”

Egyptian Theatre, $9
Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray and Harold Ramis star in this 1984 comedy about a group of friends who capture poltergeists. .

“The Nightmare Before Christmas” in 4-D
Thursday-Sunday, multiple showings
El Capitan Theater, $12
Disney adds another dimension to the story of the king of Halloweentown, by incorporating sensory effects into the screening.

“Dracula” screening
Friday, 8 p.m.
Warner Grand Theatre, $8
The 1979 version of “Dracula” stars Frank Langella, Kate Nelligan and Laurence Olivier, with a score composed by John Williams.

“Zombieland” screening
Saturday, 8 p.m.
L.A. State Historic Park, $8
In the newest addition to the pantheon of Halloween classics, Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson and Emma Stone fight off a zombie apocalypse.

“Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein” and “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” screening
Sunday, 11 a.m.
Hammer Museum, FREE
The comedic duo of Abbott and Costello encounter a series of famous monsters.

“Twilight” trilogy screening
Sunday, 1 p.m.
Warner Grand Theatre, $8, $20 for all of three films
Follow the human-vampire-werewolf love triangle through the first three installments in the series.

“The Shining” screening
Sunday, 8 p.m.
Exposition Park, $8
Jack Nicholson stars as a writer who descends into madness in Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 psychological horror film, based on Stephen King’s 1977 novel.

The after-hours festivities at the Fowler Museum celebrate life, death and rebirth with a costume contest, live music by Mariachi de Uclatlan and fall exhibitions, including urban photography by Larry Yust and “Life in Ceramics: Five Contemporary Korean Artists.”

TRANSylvania Mania!
Friday, 7 p.m.
The Hammer Museum, FREE
The annual Hammer Halloween party features stand-up comedy, live music, free “tranimal” drag makeovers and a special sneak preview of Julian Hoeber’s eerie exhibition “Demon Hill.” Costumes are encouraged.

The Grove Celebrates Halloween
Sunday, 4-7 p.m.
The Grove, FREE
Wear your costumes and make a trip down memory lane to the Grove for a free costume contest, trick-or-treating and Halloween-themed food and festivities at the Farmer’s Market and participating vendors.

West Hollywood Halloween Costume Carnaval
Sunday, 6 p.m.
La Cienega and Santa Monica boulevards, FREE
West Hollywood hosts its 23rd annual costume parade, featuring six stages of performers. Arrive early to partake in one of the largest Halloween parties in the nation.
